Abstract
The invention comprises esters of the general formula <FORM:0795789/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents a lower alkyl radical having from 1-5 carbon atoms, R1 represents an aryl or substituted aryl radical, and R2 represents a lower alkyl radical having from 1-5 carbon atoms, salts thereof, and a process for the production thereof which comprises reacting the acid chloride of a phenyl acetic acid of the general formula <FORM:0795789/IV (b)/2> with a compound of the formula <FORM:0795789/IV (b)/3> and isolating the ester base from the resulting ester hydrochloride. The reaction may be effected in toluene by heating. Alternatively the esters are produced by ester interchange between an ester of an a -alkyl-a -phenyl acetic acid and a substituted tetrahydro-1,4-oxazine-N-ethanol, in the presence of a basic catalyst, e.g. sodium ethylate. Examples describe the preparation of a -phenyl-a -ethyl acetic acid (2-phenyl - 3 - methyl - tetrahydro - 1,4 - oxazine)-N-ethyl ester.
