Abstract

<PICT:0795304/III/1> <PICT:0795304/III/2> <PICT:0795304/III/3> A device for dispersing a liquid or semiliquid material, e.g. adhesive or ink, comprises a reservoir 1 having an outlet 4, a stem 6 extending from the interior of the reservoir 1, an applicator, e.g. a ball 5, Fig. 3, mounted on the stem 6 externally of the reservoir 1 and adapted at least partially to close the outlet 4 when the device is not in use and to be moved away from the outlet 4 to leave a gap for egress of material when the applicator is pressed on a surface 13, which makes an acute angle with the stem 6, and means, e.g. a spring 9, associated with the stem 6 and arranged resiliently to oppose movement of the applicator away from the outlet 4. The stem 6 carries a head 8 and is guided by a washer 7 held between a shoulder 10 on a cap 3 and the edge of the end 2 of the reservoir 1, the spring 9 acting against the head 8 to urge the ball 5 against the outlet 4. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, a pair of grooved rollers 19 are mounted on a spindle 17 formed on a stem 18. The rollers 19 lie in a semi-cylindrical recess 15, Fig. 8, having three aligned slots in its wall. In both of the above embodiments, the spring 9 may be omitted and the washer 7 may be made of a resilient material, e.g. nylon, the stem 6, 18 being attached to the washer, or the stem may be resilient, e.g. of nylon, and have three outwardly extending resilient legs which lie behind the washer 7 or which replace the washer 7, being held between the parts 2, 10.
