Abstract

<PICT:0638709/III/1> <PICT:0638709/III/2> A device for applying liquids to surfaces, e.g. for applying perfume to the person, comprises a cylindrical container 1, Fig. 1, provided with a liquid-delivery nozzle 2 in which is located a ball 3, e.g. of steel, the ball being held in a seating formed by inwardly turning the periphery of the nozzle aperture which is of such size that the ball projects outwardly thereof but cannot pass through it. A collar 4 is frictionally lodged within the container below the ball 3 and a helical spring 7 disposed between the ball and a shoulder provided on the collar presses the ball outwardly on to its seating, so that the ball is wedged within the seating. A liquid compartment 8 behind the collar 4 is filled with absorbent material such as cotton wool and a wick 9 extends through the collar into contact with the rear surface of the ball. The top of the device may be closed by a screw-on removable cap 10 and the bottom by a screw-on cap 11. In use the ball 3 is pressed against the surface to which the liquid is to be applied and by moving the device on the surface the ball is rotated and spreads the liquid supplied to the rear of the ball by the wick. In another form, Fig. 2, the helical spring and wick are omitted and a liquid compartment 4 is filled with absorbent liquid-soaked material which is retained in position by a centrally apertured disc 5 frictionally lodged in the container. The absorbent material in the compartment 4 is compressed sufficiently tightly between the ball 3 and the disc 5 so as to resiliently press the ball outwardly on to its seating. A reservoir 6 retains a reserve supply of liquid and has its bottom closed by a centrally apertured disc 7 frictionally lodged therein. The top of the device may be closed by a cap 8 and the bottom by a cap 10 provided with a central recess in which is lodged a seating plug 13 of rubber or like material. According to the Provisional Specification the device may be employed for dispensing medicaments and the container may be made of metal or plastic material.
