A wound capacitor comprises self-healing electrodes of metallized paper 11 separated by one or more layers of plastic film such as polystyrene, polyethyleneterephthalate or polytetrafluoroethylene 12, the paper 11 forming an effective part of the dielectric. As shown, an unmetallized margin 14 is left at opposite edges of each paper strip 11 the metallized edge 15 of which may protrude beyond the dielectric 12 and be turned over to facilitate making connections by copper spraying. The paper is impregnated with a synthetic polyester resin in unpolymerized liquid form and subsequently polymerized in the roll thus enabling a resin case to be moulded round the capacitor without melting out the impregnant.
