Abstract

795,120. tubular heat exchangers. IPSEN, H. N. Feb. 19, 1957 [Feb. 27, 1956], No. 5639/57. Class 64(3) Means for promoting turbulence in a gas flowing through a heat exchanger tube comprises a plurality of strips mounted end to end within the tube, each strip being twisted to define a helical flow path for the gas on each side of the strip and adjacent ends of neighbouring strips being angularly displaced one from the other whereby gases moving through the tube are intercepted by the strips and deflected along helical passages successively offset angularly one from the next. The strips are pre ferably made of ceramic material. In the form shown adjacent strips 24 are interconnected by hooks 30 formed thereon, the assembly being suspended by a hanger 34 from the upper end of a vertical furnace-tube 11. The upper end of the tube 11 is fixed by a bellows 14 to the furnace wall, the lower end of the tube resting on a seat 16 secured by means of a ring 17 to the underside of the furnace.
