Abstract
795,050. Reaction propelled aircraft. ROLLSROYCE, Ltd. Sept. 23, 1953 [Sept. 23, 1952], No. 23809 /52. Class 4. An aircraft having a main aerofoil wing structure and an additional aerofoil structure separate from the main wing, which additional structure is arranged to move as a whole with respect to the aircraft to effect control of pitch, roll or yaw, is propelled by an air consuming reaction propulsion means accommodated within said additional structure, the air intake and gas exit being in the leading and trailing edges of said additional aerofoil. A detta-wing aircraft has a main wing structure 10, three tail fins 11 and a two-sectioned tail plane 12, each section being adjustable about an axis 14 and accommodating several gas turbine engines. The air intake may extend substantially along the whole of the leading edge, as described in Specification 656,390. The exhaust gas may pass from the engines to the jet pipes and thence to propelling nozzles or directly to propelling nozzles forming part of the engine. A ram jet engine may be used.
