Abstract

794,267. Transformers. SMIT & CO'S TRANSFORMATORENFABRLEK N.V., W. June 21, 1955 [June 29, 1954], No. 17984/55. Class 38 (2). An on-load tap-changing switch for a trans-- former rated at I amps. and with voltage steps of #E, comprises for each phase a number (n) of fixed contacts connected to each tapping, e.g. 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3b, 3c connected respectively to tappings 16, 17, 18. Co-operating with these fixed contacts are n sets of three moving contacts, each comprising a middle contact 5a, 5b, 5c connected to the external lead 12, and two outer contacts 4a, 6a, 4b, 6b, 4c, 6c connected to the associated middle contacts through resistors 7. To ensure satisfactory division of power during tap-changing between the parallel sets of contacts, while dispensing with the usual balancing resistors or chokes, the resistors 7 are given a value not greater than The middle contact of each set may move in a different plane from the other two to reduce adverse interference of arcs, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown). All the middle contacts may be combined into a single contact.
