Abstract

794,030. Granulating fertilizers. FISONS, Ltd. Jan. 9, 1956 [Oct. 8, 1954], No. 29007/54. Class 111. Fertilizer materials are granulated by treating with steam and the tumbling in a drier, in which the steam is introduced below the body of the fertilizer in the wetting zone. In a suitable apparatus, shown in the Provisional Specification, the fertilizer is admitted to an inclined rotary drum 1 which is provided with a baffle 2 to give a deep bed of the fertilizer undergoing steam treatment before the plasticized material passes to a rotary drier 5. Steam is admitted at low pressure through a pipe 3 ending in a " fish tail " outlet 4 which discharges steam at low velocity below the bed of fertilizer. A small amount of water may also be admitted. The fertilizer may consist of superphosphate to which ammonium and potassium salts have been added.
