Abstract
Granular solids, e.g. granulated fertilisers, are coated with a powder, e.g. Kieselguhr, by a process wherein the powder-coating material is moistened with steam prior to application to the granules. The Kieselguhr may be moistened with 4 to 8% by weight of the Kieselguhr of water. Part of the moisture introduced may be incorporated in the powder-coating material in a preliminary stage, the remainder being introduced in a powder-coating drum together with the granulated solid. 1.8 to 2.8% of moisture may be introduced into the Kieselguhr directly in the preliminary stage, the remainder being introduced into the powder-coating drum. The moistening of the powder-coating material may be promoted by cooling the powder-coating material and the cooling may be so adjusted that approximately 50% of the steam is absorbed by the powder-coating material. The powder-coating material may be fully dried before the steam treatment.
