Abstract

Hardened pellets are produced from finely divided solids containing as a major constituent a sulphidic Cu concentrate by moistening the solids with aqu. H2SO4, balling the moistened solids, and then drying the pellets at 90-450 DEG C. The H2SO4 reacts with the concentrate to form a water-soluble metal sulphate which is said to be concentrated during drying in the outer layers of the pellet and thereby form a hard crust. The solids may be balled with 1-1.7% H2SO4 (by wt. of the solids) and dried in a rotary drum or by passing hot gas through a packed or fluidized bed of the pellets.
