793,980. Fluid-actuated valves. INGENIORSFIRMAN FLIESBERG AKTIEBOLAG. Dec. 7, 1955 [Dec. 23, 1954], No. 35100/55. Class 135. A vacuum control valve comprises a valve body 1 having connections 2, 4 with a vacuum pump and a space to be evacuated, respectively, first and second valve members 13, 28 urged towards their respective seats by springs 32, 29, a rod 21 on which the valve members independently slide, loaded at one end by a spring 23 and connected at its other end to a diaphragm 15 (or bellows), and a throttled connection 17 between the valve body chamber 1a and a chamber 19 above the diaphragm. The valve member 13 is constituted by a double-beat valve comprising plane and conical valve members 11, 12 coacting with conical and plane valve seats 9, 10 respectively: the plane valve member just passing through the plane valve seat so that when the valve members are seated they are pressure-balanced. Nuts 31 and a sleeve 30 permit adjustment, so that the valve members 13, 28 may both be seated when the diaphragm 15 is unstressed. On the pressure in the chamber 1a falling below the desired subpressure the diaphragm will be raised against the spring 23 to unseat the valve member 28 to admit atmospheric air from below the diaphragm directly to the chamber 1a to reduce the tendency of the diaphragm to oscillate. On the pressure in the chamber 1a rising above the desired sub-pressure the diaphragm 15 will be lowered to unseat the valve member 13 to connect the pump to the space being evacuated.
