Abstract
793,626. Fishing rod rests. BELL, L. E. June 13, 1955 [Oct. 8, 1954], No. 29042/54. Class 48. A T-shaped fishing-rod rest consists of a spring-loaded horizontal member 10 which receives a fishing rod handle and is pivoted about the top of a vertical member 4 and is supported in set position by a detent 1 hinged to the horizontal member 10 and resting on the protruding tip of a latch 14, Fig. 5, pivoted at 15 within the vertical member 4, the opposite end of the latch being engaged by a tooth 11 on a flat leaf-spring 8, and a hinged wire arm 5 resting on the fishing line so that when a fish bites, the wire arm 5 is raised and a cam 12 thereon lifts the leaf-spring 8, to disengage the tooth 11, whereupon the latch 14 tilts and withdraws its support for the detent 1 and consequently the horizontal member 10 tilts under the action of the spring 2 to give the rod a striking action. The lower end of the detent 1 is located in a channel-shaped guide 6 having a slot in its web for the passage of the tip of the latch 14 and a spring 7 presses the detent into engagement. with the latch. The rod handle is held in re-' versed hooks 3 on the horizontal member. The wire arm 5 is pivoted by staples to the vertical member 4 and its forward end is hook-shaped.
