Abstract

793,246. Weighing apparatus. GABRIEL R. P. Dec. 22, 1955 [Sept. 27, 1954], No. 27842/54. Class 143 [Also in Group XXXVIII] A weighing apparatus comprises a load receiving beam or platform mounted to rock upon a substantially vertically immovable support, and located by a plurality of matched spring devices which are so arranged that a load placed anywhere on the beam or platform is transferred to the support, and weight indicating or recording means responsive to the application of the weight of the load to the support. The beam 5, Fig. 1, is located in a pit 12 by springs 11 and is supported on an hydraulic piston and cylinder 7, 8 connected to a weight calibrated pressure gauge 10. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, leaf springs 38 and links 37 form the locating means. Fig. 3 illustrates a device in which platform bearers 22 are located by pairs of springs 27, 28, and are connected to a plate 23 supported through a vertically adjustable ball and socket 24 on a piston and cylinder 25, 26. In Fig. 2 rubber bushes 16 bonded to rings 17 locate the beam 13 relative to knife edge 14 through adjusting screws 18; the load-measuring device comprising an electrical strain gauge 19 in a circuit including a meter 20. In various other modifications (not shown) the matched springs comprise fluid cushions, torsion bars, or rubber or plastic blocks, strips, or annuli bonded to the beam or platform. The indicating mechanism can comprise a high magnification lever system. Specification 605,558 [Group XIX] is referred to.
