Abstract

1373992 Measuring force electrically: weighing W & T AVERY Ltd 22 March 1973 [11 Jan 1972] 1168/72 Headings G1N and G1W A force-measuring apparatus comprises a platform 10 supported above a base 11 through thin flat flexules 12 which are connected to the platform and base by rigid members 13, 14 such that under load the flexures distort with a point of inflexion, and strain gauges are secured on each flexure on either side of the point of inflexion and are connected in opposition so as to provide an output which indicates the imposed load W independently of its position on the platform 10. Four flexures, one at each corner may be disposed to support a rectangular platform, each flexure comprising two or more parallel members Fig. 5 (not shown). In a weighing arrangement Fig. 6 (not shown) the platform supports a weighing scoop, and a dashpot provides damping. Bridge circuits of the flexure members are connected together to give a single output Fig. 9 (not shown).
