Abstract
Orthophosphoric acid is reacted with an aqueous suspension of antimony trioxide to obtain a precipitate of antimony phosphate suitable for use in flameproofing textiles. Preferably an acid such as citric or tartaric acid which reacts in the presence of water with antimony trioxide is present as a catalyst. To avoid the precipitation of a gelatinous mass rather than a white crystalline precipitate, the temperature of the reaction may be raised or the slurry concentration lowered. It is preferred when using slurry concentrations of at least 100 g/l to utilize a temperature above 60 DEG C. The products may be filtered, washed and dried at 100-120 DEG C.
