Abstract
792,157. Gas turbines. BUCHI, A. J. Sept. 23, 1955 [Nov. 27, 1954], No. 27206/55. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXIV] A compressor rotor 2 and a turbine rotor 1 are mounted on a hollow shaft 3 containing a tie-rod 4, supported in the turbine rotor, and tensioned by screw means 4a to couple the parts together. As shown, the compressor rotor 2 has a cone-shaped hole receiving a correspondingly shaped part 3a at the end of the hollow shaft, and an axial rib 1a on the turbine rotor abuts the compressor rotor. The screw means comprises a nut 4a threaded on the end of the tie-rod 4 and engaging the end of a thimble 6 abutting a bearing collar 3b. The other end of the tie-rod 4 is screwed into the turbine rotor 1. A gap between the turbine and compressor rotors is packed with heat insulating material 12 to reduce heat transfer. Further to prevent relative rotation between the rotors 1, 2, they may be additionally coupled by keys, studs, &c. As shown, coupling-pins 14 connect the rotors. In one modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the tierod 4 passes through the turbine rotor 1 and has an enlarged head which abuts the hub of the turbine rotor. In another modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the end 3a of the hollow shaft 3 is part-coned and part-cylindrical, to co-operate with a correspondingly formed recess in the compressor rotor 2, and the shaft and rotor are connected by keys. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the end 3a of the hollow shaft 3 is cylindrical and has a radial flange against which the compressor rotor 2 is drawn. In another modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), similar to that of Fig. 1, the end of the tie-rod 4 is welded to the turbine rotor 1.
