Abstract

791,908. Velocity modulated tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO., Ltd. April 26, 1956 [June 10, 1955], No. 16832/55. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(b)] A cavity resonator is tuned by means of an elongated resilient conductor 8 anchored at one end to the wall of the cavity. The cavity 2 forms part of a klystron 1 having grids 3, 4. The tuning member is soldered or welded to the cavity wall at one end 10 and is adjustable away from and towards the wall by means of a screw 12. In a modification, Fig. 3A, the tuning member 8 is in the form of an annular channel which lies in a groove 13 in the wall of the cavity. The channel is attached at one end to the cavity wall and is moved in and out of the groove by an arrangement similar to that shown in Fig. 2, saw-cuts being provided in the side walls 8a, 8b to enable the channel to flex. The sides 8a, 8b are urged into conductive contact with the sides of the groove 13.
