Abstract

791,793. Circuits for loud-speakers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 2, 1956 [May 5, 1955], No. 13544/56. Class 40 (4). In a low-frequency amplifier a high-tone and a low-tone loudspeaker are connected in series in the anode circuit of a screen grid valve, the input impedance of the lowtone loud-speaker being connected between the anode and the screen grid of the valve and being shunted by a capacitor which offers a low impedance to the high-frequencies of the audiofrequency spectrum. As shown in Fig. 1, the high-tone loud-speaker 16 has a low impedance so that for low frequencies the screen grid 18 is substantially at the potential of battery 8 and the valve acts as a pentode with a high gain and with a high distortion factor that is of no consequence to the low-tone loud-speaker 12. For high frequencies loud-speaker 12 is shortcircuited by capacitor 17 so that the anode and screen grid are effectively connected together and the valve acts as s triode with a low gain and a low distortion factor. The invention may be applied to a push-pull arrangement using two pentodes. Specification 496,883, [Group XL], is referred to.
