Abstract

A method of making metal articles having cutting edges or penetrating points comprises forming the articles of stainless steel and subjecting at least the parts carrying the cutting edges or points to a temperature between 265 and 370 DEG C. and in an oven or salt bath to 265-270 DEG C. and cooling. A surgical needle may be heated the temperature then increased at the rate of 1 DEG C. per minute to 275-285 DEG C. and maintained at that temperature long enough for the cross-section of the needle to attain the temperature and then cooling to room temperature. The edges and/or point may then be ground.
