Abstract

Low carbon steels after cold working but before cold shaping are kept in a cold store at a temperature not exceeding 10 DEG C. The temperature may be between - 30 DEG and +10 DEG C. The steel may be put into the cold store immediately after cold working or may remain at atmospheric temperature for such time as does not affect the ductility. It may remain at cold store temperature indefinitely and may be easily cold formed thereafter. The treatment is stated to reduce strain-age embrittlement.
