Abstract

790,295. Fluid-pressure gauges. FOXBORO CO. Sept. 20, 1955 [Sept. 20, 1954], No. 26908/55. Class 106 (2). A differential pressure responsive device comprises a back-up plate 18, Fig. 4, and a pair of corrugated metal diaphragms 20, 22 secured at their peripheries 42, 44 to opposite sides of the plate to form a hermetically sealed unit, each of the diaphragms being normally slightly spaced from the adjacent side of the plate to permit a limited amount of inward deflection, the opposite sides of the plate being provided with convolutions 38, 40 that conform with the diaphragm corrugations so that when excessively high pressures are applied the diaphragm seats snugly against the back-up plate and the plate prevents distortion of the diaphragm, the plate 18 having a passage 30, Fig. 5, establishing communication between the diaphragms. The diaphragm assembly is mounted in the casing by means of a ring 46 of trapezoidal cross-section which is clamped between the casing parts 12, 14. The diaphragms are clamped together by a bolt 50, with washers 52, 58, bushes 54, 56 and packing 78, 82 passageways 62, 64, 66, 68 being provided for filling the device internally with a non-compressible liquid, sealing being effected by closure balls 70, 72.
