Abstract
833,275. Stuffing-box substitutes. DEWRANCE & CO. Ltd. Nov. 14, 1958 [Nov. 22, 1957], No. 36423/57. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XXIX] In a valve in which the spindle 10 is sealed by a bellows 50 secured in fluid-tight manner at one end to the spindle and at the other end to the valve body cover 4, means are provided to equalize the pressures at the inner and outer sides of the bellows. One end-piece 49 of the bellows is welded to a shoulder 48 on the spindle and the other end-piece 51 is welded to an extension 54 of the cover 4. The interior 56 of the bellows is connected by a pipe 66 to the casing 61 of a pressure compensator 60 comprising a bellows 68 closed at one end by a plate 72 and welded at its other end to the casing. The interior of the bellows 68 and the space 57 between the bellows 50 and the cover 4 are connected by a pipe 59 and are filled with a liquid introduced through a plug 82 in the casing cover 76. A gland 84, prevents leakage of the liquid along the spindle. Thus, in operation, the pressures on the inner and outer sides of the bellows 50 are substantially the same.
