Abstract
790,149. Perforating-machines. SOC. DU SURBOUCHAGE ASTRA. Oct. 20, 1955 [Nov. 12, 1954], No. 30038/55. Class 31 (2). A machine for perforating a thin strip 23 of easily deformable material, e.g. aluminium, so as to centre the strip relative to a punch and die assembly for cutting out blanks for container capsules comprises a punch 5, Fig. 3, mounted on a rotatable cylindrical support 1, Fig. 1, and formed with an outer bevel 6 surrounded by a chamfer 9 in a head 8 to form a V-shaped groove, and a die 20, Fig. 4, co-operable with the punch and mounted on a second rotatable cylindrical support 2 from which it projects, the cylindrical supports being spaced apart by a distance greater than the strip thickness but less than the distance e, Fig. 4, by which the die normally projects from the support 2 so that the die is adapted to press the strip against the punch to cause the strip to be perforated. The punch is associated with a spring-influenced tubular member 14 for holding the strip while it is punched, and the punched-out portion is ejected by means of a spring-influenced piston 17 movable within the member 14. The punch is of triangular, circular, polygonal or other shape. The die consists of a rubber block formed with a central projection 22, Fig. 4, against which the punched-out portion is adapted to adhere under the action of the piston 17. A plurality of such punches and dies are provided respectively on the cylinders 1, 2. The punched-out portions 24, Fig. 1, are removed from the dies by means of a shoot 25 provided with suction means, and the dies are cleaned by means of a brush 25a. A cylinder 26 driven in synchronism with the cylinders 1, 2 carries printing blocks 27 each centred by a pin or the like 28, printing being effected either directly on the strip or through the offset process. The strip may be fed by means of an intermittently-driven sprocket-wheel provided on a bottle capsuling machine. Specification 734,660, [Group XVI], is referred to.
