Abstract
1279059 Making hollow-ware; cupping HAMAC-HANSELLA GmbH 17 Dec 1970 [22 Jan 1970] 59994/70 Headings B3A and B3Q Apparatus for cutting out and shaping a flanged oval or cylindrical cup having a lip c, Fig. 5, on the flange b comprises a die 50 surrounded by a drawing ring 45 and by a blanking tool 40, and a punch 14 surrounded by holddowns 15, 16, the hold-down 16 releasing the flange b before this is drawn by the ring 45 to form the lip c. An inwardly-rolled edge is formed on the lip c during the return stroke, by a groove 34 in the hold-down 16. A screw 54 in the tool 40 passes through a clearance hole 55 in the drawing ring into a groove 56 in the die 50, which is carried by the piston 58 of a pneumatic cushion. A lower pneumatic cushion 19, 20 supports the hold-downs 15, 16 on pins 18. As the upper tool assembly is lowered in a press an upper hold-down 41 secures a sheet metal workpiece during blanking. Cupping follows, until the inner hold-down 15 and the die 50 are arrested by a stop 32, Fig. 4. Continued movement of the tool 40 releases the hold-down 16 from the flange b before a shoulder 47 on the tool 40 engages the drawing tool 45 and moves it axially for forming the lip c. The air pressure in the cushions doubles during the operation.
