Abstract

1322123 Punching P-O STRANDELL 26 March 1971 7883/71 Heading B3W For blanking elements such as washers from a workpiece, a holder 12 for coaxial punches 16, 17 is first actuated by an impact tool (38), Fig. 3 (not shown), to drive the punch 17 into the workpiece with a movable die-holder 23 in the broken line position of Fig. 1, i.e. with the die 22 located beneath the punch 17. Immediately a disc (28), Fig. 2 (not shown), has been punched out of the workpiece the punch 17 is stopped by engagement of the punch 16 with the workpiece. With the disc (28) in the die 22 the die holder is moved to the full line position in which the disc is discharged through shoot 27 and the die 21 is beneath the punch 16. The holder is actuated again to blank out an element (18) Fig. 2 (not shown), the stroke of the punch 16 being stopped by engagement of a shoulder 34 on the punch with the workpiece or of the lower face 35 of the holder 12 with a shoulder 11 in the punch casing 11. The punch holder is raised by air pressure and the die holder returned to the broken line position in which the blanked element 18 is discharged through a shoot 29. The apparatus may be operated automatically through a pneumatic system, Fig. 3 (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 5, punches 90, 89 coact respectively with a fixed die 93 and a die 94 which ends the perforating stroke of punch 89 and is then lowered by means of a piston and cylinder assembly 97. The die 94 is supported in raised position by a reciprocable wedge 101. Blanked elements 191 are ejected by an air supply at 98. The punches need not be coaxial as long as the projection on the workpiece of the cutting edge of the punch which operates first is at least partially located within the projection on the workpiece of the cutting edge of the punch which operates second.
