Abstract
Articles such as tubes, e.g., for protecting thermocouples, crucibles, turbine blades or extrusion or hot pressing dies are formed by slip casting alternate layers of a refractory metal oxide ceramic, e.g. alumina, and a metal ceramic material in a plaster mould, and sintering the moulded article in a protective atmosphere, e.g., nitrogen or argon. The metal ceramics each include chromium or iron and may comprise: chromium - alumina; chromium-alumina-titania; chromium-molybdenum-alumina-tantalum pentoxide; chromium-tungsten-alumina; chromium-tungsten-calcium-zirconate; iron-alumina-silica.
