Abstract

White portland cement clinker is obtained by quenching the clinker, after it has left the combustion zone, by immersion in or wetting with an aqueous solution or suspension containing one or more of the acids sulphuric, sulphurous, hydrogen halide, their alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts or the similar metal salt of sulphoxylic acid, the quenching period being sufficient to insure that the white appearance penetrates into the interior of the clinker. Preferred concentration of the liquid is 0,5 to 5 per cent. Reagents adhering to the clinker can be removed by washing with pure water. Specification 420,478 is referred to.
