Abstract

788,540. Attaching seeds to strips. O'HARA, A. G., and O'HARA, M. Aug. 4, 1955 [Aug. 4, 1954], No. 22650/54. Class 94(1). In a manually-operated device for producing a seed-strip to facilitate sowing a line of seeds in spaced relationship, a strip 15 of paper or fabric 1s fed from a roll 4 over guide rollers 6 to 9, the roller 6 being formed with a cam 11 which periodically raises the strip into contact with an adhesive applying nozzle 13 and the rollers 8, 9 causing the strip to move over the outlet 17 of a seed container 16 so that seeds adhere to the spots of adhesive. The adhesive is contained in a reservoir 12 and the nozzle is controlled by a ball valve 14 which is opened by the strip. The nozzle may be replaced by a brush. The rollers 7, 8 are formed with central grooves to prevent adherence of the strip. In use, the end of the strip is pegged to the ground at one end of a furrow and laid in the furrow as it is paid out over the roller 9.
