Abstract

788,391. Capacitors. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 30, 1954 [June 30, 1953], No. 18109/53. Class 37. An electrical capacitor comprises a casing within which are contained one or more impregnated capacitor elements provided with a fuse, the fuse being shrouded from the elements and the casing, so that if the fuse blows the evolution of conducting particles by the arc produced thereby is substantially prevented and the arc is not maintained by the formation of a conducting path. In the construction shown, the fuse 4 comprises a thin wire which interconnects the terminal 3 and the capacitor element 2 which is housed within a casing 1 and impregnated with a suitable oil. The fuse is surrounded by a folded sheet 6 of insulating material provided with an aperture 7 through which the connecting tagfrom the capacitor element passes. In an alternative construction the fuse wire lies between two parallel sheets of insulating material. In a further construction, the fuse is contained within a sealed glass envelope.
