Abstract

To prevent the adherence of soil or other particles, textile fabrics are treated with a dispersion in a liquid vehicle of an aluminium phosphate of an average particle size not greater than 70 millimicrons, a coating of from 0.25-5 per cent of the weight of the fabric being deposited. The fabric may be composed of wool, cotton, jute, viscose or acetate rayon, nylon, polyacrylic, polyester or other synthetic fibres or blends thereof, or may be a pile fabric. The liquid vehicle may be water, ethanol or iso-propanol which may contain up to 10 per cent of water, methanol, acetone, ethylene glycol or carbon tetrachloride. The dispersion may also contain trisodium phosphate, a polyethylene glycol wax, carboxymethyl cellulose, or silicon, aluminium or titanium oxides, an aluminium-magnesium silicate or mixtures of these compounds, and a softening agent, dye or other colouring matter. The treatment may be applied to fibres prior to spinning or to yarns prior to weaving. Examples refer to the treatment of pile fabrics having cotton-jute backings and wool-nylon, wool-viscose rayon or cotton pile.
