Abstract

787,089. Ladders. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS (AIRCRAFT), Ltd. June 1, 1956 [June 22, 1955], No. 18079/55. Class 20(2) A collapsible staircase for access to an aircraft cabin comprises sections A, B, C folding on each other on transverse pivots 17, 18 the section A being mounted on a fixed pivot 21 n the cabin about whicn it is adapted to be swung out of the cabin by a jack 22 whereupon a linkage 30, 33, 37, 40, 44, unfolds the sections B, C, and a toggle link 48, 49 opens the cabin door 13. The linkage is operated by a fixed arcuate cam track 29 and a lever 27 having a cam follower 28. The hand rail 19, 20 is also erected and folded by this linkage. A detent 52 on the section A engages a slot 53 in a plate 51 on the toggle link 48, 49 and motivates opening of the door when the section A begins to unfold, a spring telescopic member 54 connected to the toggle link completes this opening movement.
