Abstract
786,920. Moulding travellers for ring spinning &c. frames. COATS, Ltd., J. & P. Oct. 5, 1955 [May 3, 1955], No. 28349/55. Class 87(2). [Also in Group IX] A traveller for ring spinning and twisting frames, in the form of an article 10, Fig. 2, having a small hooked end 11 and a large hooked end 12, the member being made of plastic material and having embedded in the end 12 a metallic reinforcing insert 13, is made as follows: A metallic strand 15 is unwound from a spool 16, Fig. 1, gripped by a device 24, 25, and its end 13 is disposed within the mould cavity, the part 13<SP>1</SP> being clamped in a groove formed in the meeting faces of a two-part mould 17, 17, Fig. 3. An ejector rod 22 also is clamped in a groove in the meeting faces, its end extending into a gate-forming recess 21<SP>1</SP>. Plastic material is then injected from a nozzle 33 into the mould cavity 18 to form the moulded article 10 having the end of the metallic strand embedded therein, and to form a gate 21. The mould then opens, Fig. 3, the gripping device 24, 25, is released and the rod 22 and strand 15 are moved downwardly (the strand being moved by a gripper 26) to transfer the moulded article and gate to a trimming station (see Figs. 2 and 3) where tools 30 cut the strand at the surface of the article and also cut away the gate. The article is thus freed and falls into a receptacle. Before the tools 30 separate the rod 22 is raised to strip it from the cut-off gate which falls into another receptacle. The gripper 26 then raises the strand to the moulding position, Fig. 1, rod 22 rising also. The moulding and trimming operations are then repeated. Specifications 565,848, 627,157, 627,370, 627,371, 627,372, 627,373, 627,374 and 627,375 [all in Group IX] are referred to.
