Abstract
786,880. Locking nuts etc.; coupling ropes; friction-grip fasteners. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. March 23, 1954 [March 23, 1953], No. 22583/56. Divided out of 786,879 [Group XXXVI]. Classes 44, 89(1) and 109 [Also in Group XXXVI] A wire is attached to a connector 15 by inserting the bare strands thereof through a tubular part 12 and upon inclined part 13 so that the ends overlie a ribbed part 14, the strands being secured by a helical spring-coil 26 having a handle 24 which is broken off at an arcuate notch 55 after the coil has been screwed onto the strands <SP>v</SP> and part 14. The coil may be provided with a cover 50. Fig. 9 shows a similar arrangement for connecting a conductor 101 to a busbar lying within the end portion 91, the conductor-end lying in a tapering trough 94 and being secured therein. by the helical spring. In another form, Fig. 11 the connector has interfitting segments 113, 114 and the coil 116 is pre-expanded and then released round part 118 of the connector, the coil being screwed forward to clamp the segments 113, 114 round a conductor 111. A coil is shown enclosed in an insulating shell 142 having a slit for the passage of the handle in Fig.. 13. Specification 715,872 [Group XXXVI] also is referred to.
