Abstract

786,878. Audible and visible, signalling apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 15, 1955 [June 16, 1954], No. 17303/55. Class 118 (2). [Also in Group XL (c)] A capacitor 24, Fig. 3, is connected between the junction 18 and one of the base electrodes 14, a resistor 22 being connected between the junction and the other base 16 to generate a cyclically varying A.C. current or voltage to control a signalling apparatus. A filamentary lamp may be included in the base lead 14, Fig. 1 (not shown), and used as a warning light on vehicles and road signs and for intermittent illumination for display purposes. Alternatively, audible devices such as buzzers and electric bells may be operated. In a modification, Fig. 2, the lamp 20 is supplied with current through resistor 30, the discharge of capacitor 24 augmenting the current so that the lamp flashes. By including the resistor 22 in parallel with the non-linear back resistance of the diode 18, 16 the charging rate of the capacitor 24 is maintained more nearly constant with varying temperature. It is stated that a radio transmitter may also be controlled. Specification 786,876, (Group XL (c)], is referred to.
