Abstract
786,615. Linkwork. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 15, 1956, No. 8113/56. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] A decoupling linkage for preventing the transmission of longitudinal movement from a member 1 to a member 3, particularly applicable to a manual and automatic fluid-pressure servomotor-control system of an aircraft (see Group XXIX), comprises a transversely disposed link 8 with a sleeve portion 5 for pivotal connection to a cylindrical member 4 on the member 1 and a slot 9 for engagement by pin 10 secured to the member 3. A spring 11 acts between a bracket 12 on the link 8 and the pin 10 to bias the latter into a position coaxial with the pivot member 4 when movement can be directly transmitted between members 1 and 3. The pin 10 is adapted to be moved along the link 8 against the spring 11 when desired by admitting a pressure fluid into a cylinder 15 carried by the link 8 to act on a piston 16 coupled to the pin 10. The pin 10 is thus moved out of alignment with the pivot 4 and no movement can be transmitted between member 1 and member 3 within the designed range. The pin 10 could be controlled by an electric solenoid, or an electric motor associated with a rack-and-pinion mechanism, instead of the hydraulic means. A pin 7 on the pivot member 4 operates in a slot 6 of the sleeve 5 to limit the relative angular movement thereof. In a modified arrangement the link 8 is of tubular form pivoted to a yoke on member 1 and is slotted to allow the passage of member 3 which is pivoted to a slider within the tubular link. This slider is acted upon by a spring and piston to control the pivot alignment. Specification 698,032,.[Group XXXV], is referred to.
