Abstract

786,431. Hinges and pivots; door operating. VAUXHALL MOTORS. Ltd. Nov. 21, 1955 [Dec. 16, 1954], No. 36430/54. Classes 65(1) and 65(2) A counterbalanced lid (e.g. car bonnet), is supported on each side by a bracket 10 pivoted at 1 to a fixed member 8, and two pivotally interconnected links 11. 12 pivoted at 2 to the bracket 10 and at 4 to the fixed member 8, a pair of springs 6, 7 connecting each end of a pin 13 through a projection 12A of the lever 12 to a pin 9 through the member 8. When the cover is fully closed the moment applied by its weight on lever 12 about the pivot 4 exceeds that applied by the springs, and when the cover is fully open the converse is the case, while in a partly open position said moments are equal. An adjustable stop 5 limits opening. The end 11A of the lever 11 is bent to accommodate the projection 12A in the closed position.
