Abstract

786,064. Vehicle power steering. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. July 21, 1954 [Sept. 25, 1953], No. 21286/54. Class 79(5) [Also in Group XXIX] In a hydraulic steering system for a vehicle in which a liquid motor is supplied through a control valve 10, a device 22 maintains, in a return conduit 20, a back pressure which bears a fixed ratio to the pressure in a supply conduit 12. The device 22 comprises a member 92 subjected to the pressure in the supply conduit and a valve element 94 co-operating with a seat 96 to produce the back pressure in the return conduit. The control valve comprises a housing 34 formed with channels 40, 48 communicating with the supply conduit 12 and a channel 44 communicating with the return conduit 20. A valve member 38, in the normal central position shown, has channels 42, 46 providing free communication between channels 40, 48 and the channel 44. Channels 42, 46 are always in communication with conduits 24, 26 leading to the motor.
