Abstract
785,947. Cam-operated switches; switch covers; key-operated switches. MIDLAND ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. June 8, 1956 [June 9, 1955], No. 16565/55. Class 38 (5). In a switch of the kind wherein contacts b are carried (as shown), or operated, by a slidable bar a actuated by a cam c against the action of a spring d, the cam and bar are covered by a shield g having a keyhole slot h giving access for a keypiece n on the operating handle m to a notch in the cam, the keypiece and slot being arranged so that the handle and keypiece, together with the switch cover j, can only be removed when the switch is open. Levers p pivoted to the cover and interconnected by a spring q co-operate with formations on the handle spindle k to locate the switch on and off. In a modification (Figs. 4-6, not shown) the shield is in two parts, one being removable to give access to the contacts, and the movable contacts comprise blade springs fixed at one end to the base and taking in notches in the bar a for actuation thereby. The spindle k is biased " off " by a relatively weak torsion spring to facilitate replacement, and the cam engages a shallow recess in the bar a to locate the latter in the off position.
