Abstract

785,540. Metal-working presses. CAMPBELL, T. March 12, 1954 [March 14, 1953], No. 7103/53. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIX] In a machine for pressing, cutting of punching, and having a member 2 moved towards a member 1 by hydraulic rams 7, 8, the members 1, 2 are maintained parallel by pistons 25, 26 in cylinders 23, 24, the upper compartment 31 of cylinder 23 being connected to the lower compartment 32 of cylinder 24 and the upper compartment 34 of cylinder 24 being connected to the lower compartment 35 of cylinder 23. Cylinders 9, 10 containing the rams 7, 8 respectively are connected to supply and exhaust pipes 17, 18 through a control valve 19 and pipes 13, 16. An adjustable pressure relief valve 22 is provided. A pipe 37, connecting the compartments 32, 35 is fitted with a stop valve 38 and is connected by a pipe 39 to the supply pipe 17. A combined stop and relief valve 40 is provided. The pipe 37 permits relative adjustment of one piston with respect to the other when the valve 38 is open. The positions of the pistons 7, 8 and 25, 26 may be interchanged, or the pistons 25, 26 may be arranged alongside the pistons 7, 8. Alternatively, the pistons 25, 26 may be above the movable member 2. The invention may be applied to downstroke and to horizontal stroke presses.
