Abstract

The invention comprises a process for the manufacture of 1 : 1-difluoro-1-chloro-ethane by the action of chlorine on 1 : 1-difluoroethane in liquid phase with exposure to light. The starting-material is maintained in the liquid phase either by cooling, by increased pressure or by use of an inert solvent. In examples, the chlorination is carried out with an irradiation lamp and cooling with brine or dry ice/butanol, and also continuously using 1 : 1-difluoro-1-chlorethane as the solvent, and in carbon tetrachloride.
