Abstract
784,815. Boots &c. lasts. TODDLERS FOOTWEAR (1954), Ltd. April 4, 1956 [No. 30, 1955], No. 34281/55. Classes 17(1) and 17(2) A method of making shoes of the type in which the insole and outer sole are extended at the rear to the top of the quarters comprises first joining by a seam 9, Fig. 11 two quarters 7 shaped when fastened to form an opening 10 and then attaching by cement on the inside the rear extension 4 of an insole 1. The insole and attached quarters are then placed on a last 5 which has a substantially flattened surface 6 tapering in width towards the top and the upper is lasted in any normal way. The insole and upper at the bottom and rear are now roughed up for the cement attachment of an outsole 3 having a rear extension 14 which may then be trimmed to shape at the rear. Preferably a heel wedge 13, .Fig. 14, is inserted and the sole 3 hammered or pressed to shape. Although the roughering severs the seam 9 the parts remain in position due to the preliminary cement attachment of the insole 1. The quarters and both soles are preferably extended at 8 where the normal height of the rear of the shoe. Either or both soles may initially be in two pieces and be skived and joined by adhesive in overlapping relation the heel part being extended at the rear. The soles may be of any usual material including rubber which may be initially moulded to the desired form and may be attached by adhesive or a vulcanizing process.
