784,340. Friction clutches. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. April 7, 1955. No. 10301/55. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] A friction element for a clutch is mounted within a cup-like container 12 by first pressing the friction material 30 against a perforated disc 20 so that the material fills the voids 22, The disc 20 being welded to the base of the container, the peripheral flange 16 of which is given a slight inward taper which wedges the friction material in place. It is stated that this form of construction prevents the shopping or dislodging, as distinct from abrasion, of friction material from the supporting member, particularly when the thickness " D " of the article has been worn down to the last one-fourth of useful wear life.
