749,483. Brake linings. BRITISH BELTING & ASBESTOS, Ltd. Nov. 19, 1954 [Nov. 20, 1953], No. 32254/53. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] In a friction element or lining for brakes or clutches, the friction element 1, instead of being riveted to the carrier member, is secured to the carrier member 4 by means of a clamping strip 6 which is housed in a recess 5 in the friction element and provided with inclined marginal portions 7 which are slidably engageable in at least one pair of oppositely inclined narrow slots or saw-cuts 2 provided in the friction element. Studs 8, riveted or spotwelded to the intermediate part of the clamping strip 6, extend through holes in the carrier member 4 to co-operate with nuts 9 by which the clamping strip is secured to the carrier member. The oppositely inclined slots or saw cuts may diverge or converge from the surface of the friction element surface which contacts the carrier member.
