Abstract
784,339. Glass-melting furnaces; preheating furnace charges. AKTIEBOLAGET SURTE GLASBRUK. April 5, 1955, No. 9897/55. Class 51 (2). In a glass-making furnace of the tank type having the melting chamber 7 heated by gas or oil burners introduced at 9 and also by one or more electrodes 10 in the bath, the exhaust gases pass along to a flue 5 through a preheating channel 6 over an endless conveyer 4 fed with batch material from a feeding device 2. The batch material is partially melted before being discharged into the melting chamber facilitating low-temperature reactions among the constituents.
