Abstract

Accelerator systems for curing polychloroprene comprise (1) 100 parts of a butadiene polymer, (2) 100 to 1500 parts of a metallic oxide curing agent, (3) 20 to 300 parts of an accelerator for vulcanizing polychloroprene which will not affect the butadiene polymer, and (4) sufficient solvent to dissolve the butadiene polymer. (1) may be polymers of butadiene or its homologues or copolymers thereof with styrene or acrylonitrile; (2) may be zinc oxide, lead oxide or magnesium oxide; (3) may be any known, preferably liquid, accelerator for polychloroprene, e.g. the reaction product of butyraldehyde with monobutylamine or aniline, or activated dithiocarbamate types; (4) may be xylol, naphtha, toluol or methyl ethyl ketone. The accelerator systems may be mixed with polychloroprenes, e.g. compositions comprising polychloroprene, carbon black and toluol, when the products cure to hard films at room temperature.
