Abstract

783,920. Releasable fastenings. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. July 11, 1955 [July 9, 1954], No. 19994/55. Class 44 [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXI] A motor vehicle steering wheel 6 tiltable on the steering column 3 about a horizontal axis 5 is characterized in that the tilting axis 5 lies in a plane E which is -perpendicular to the back of the driver's seat 2 and intersects the steering wheel rim 6 at its lowest point. In Figs. 1 and 2, the mounting 4 is pivoted about the axis 5 to the stirrup 8 which supports the rim 6 by the arms 7. The steering wheel is locked by the pin or screw 9 which may be spring-loaded. In Figs. 3, 4 and 5, the housing 10 is pivoted at 5 to the forked or hollow member 11 which supports the rim 6 on arms 16. The wheel is locked by the spring loaded pins 12 engaging the holes 15 in the member 11, release being effected by the levers 13. In Figs. 6 and 7, the checks 19, formed integrally with the hub 18 and rim 6 are pivoted at 5 to a boss 20 on the column 3, which has a spherical upper end engaging a spherical cavity in the hub 18. Locking is achieved by means of the spring bolt 21.
