Abstract

783,810. Lifting jacks. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd. March 6, 1956 [May 25, 1955], No. 15100/55. Class 78 (3). A vehicle jack comprising two arms 1, 2 hinged at 3 is operated by a screw shaft 12 pivoted at one end to the arm 1 and engaging at its other end a nut 13 pivoted to the arm 2. The arm 1 also carries a member 7 for engaging the vehicle, while the arm 2 carries a baseplate 10. In the construction illustrated the screw shaft 12 can be disengaged from the nut 13 and from a pivoted socket 15 on the arm 1 so that it can be held in spring clips 17 on the arm 2 when the jack is to be stowed. In an alternative construction, Figs. 9 to 11 (not shown), the arm 2 comprises a U-shaped arm, the free ends of which are connected by the base-plate 10.
