783,609. Jet-propulsion plant. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. May 27, 1955 [May 27, 1954], No. 15758/54. Class 110 (3). A nozzle of low discharge co-efficient for a propulsive jet of an aircraft is provided with means for applying a controlling gas stream to act on the propulsive jet upstream of the nozzle orifice to modify the discharge co-efficient so as to increase the mass flow. The drawings show nozzles 1 provided with controlling air jets supplied by pipes 3 having control valves 4. In Fig. 3, the flow to the outside of an inner tapered tube 8 is cut off or reduced by the controlling stream. With a gas turbine engine the controlling stream is supplied from the engine compressor or an auxiliary boosting compressor, and it may be controlled automatically in accordance with fuel supply to a reheat burner or with the movement of the throttle for the main fuel supply.
