Abstract

783,403. Walls, constructional metalwork. LIGHT STEEL SECTIONAL CONSTRUCTION, Ltd. Feb. 23, 1956, No. 5642/56. Classes 20(2) and 20(4) Steel frame members of L, or, as shown, of channel section, such as for use in an internal partition, are secured in perpendicular relation by means of brackets comprising inner and outer plates 4, 5 having mutually perpendicular portions 4a, 5a, which embrace side flanges 1a, 3a of a horizontal member 1 and a vertical member 3 and engage at opposite sides of the base of each of the members 1, 3, wedges being provided to clamp the plates 4, 5 together. The plates 4, 5 are triangular in shape with the corners 4e, 5e cut away and are provided with aligned holes 4d, the portions 4a of plates 4 being offset outwardly to compensate for the thickness of flanges 1a, 3a. Flanges 4b, 5b on the plates bear on the outer and inner sides respectively of the base of the frame members. A stirrup 6 has outwardly bent end portions 6a bearing against the outer side of plate 4, the central portion projecting through holes 4c, 5c, in the plates and held by a channel section wedge 7 having tapered flanges. As shown two brackets are employed to secure upright 3 to base member 1, a similar arrangement being employed to connect ceiling member 2 to upright 3. The members 1, 2, 3 may have large holes 1b, 2b, 3b for lightness and small holes 1c, 2c, 3c, for use in attaching expanded metal lathing. In a modification the plates form inclined bracing means between mutually perpendicular frame members and two or more wedge means are provided.
