Abstract

The oxidative deterioration of hydrocarbon lubricating oil is reduced by continuously contacting with an alloy of sodium and lead-tin solder. An alloy of 9 parts of sodium and 10 parts of equal parts of lead and tin may be used. The alloy may be supported on a member such as an oil filter or a crankcase drain plug associated with the lubricating system of an I.C. engine. Specification 692,488 is referred to.ALSO:An oil filter for the crank case of an I.C. engine carries an alloy of sodium and a lead-tin solder in contact with the lubricating oil. An alloy of 9 parts of sodium and 10 parts of a solder having equal parts of lead and tin may be used. Specification 692,488 [Group III] is referred to.
